How to estimate investment return
An investment return projection shows how a balance could change when you keep an initial investment, make recurring contributions, and earn an average annual rate.
The investment line uses monthly compounding. The savings benchmark uses a more conservative rate so you can see the opportunity cost between holding cash and taking market risk.
Inflation matters because a future balance may not buy the same amount as money today. That is why the calculator separates nominal value from today-dollar value.
Compare accounts and investments
Use the projection to compare contributions, fees, risk, taxes, and alternatives before investing.
